Adolescent Self Harm

Adolescent Self Harm

Adolescent self harm is a way for the adolescent to express him or herself. It is a way to release some anger, fear, pain or frustration in their life. Adolescent self harm is very damaging to the body and may be a sign of more out of control behavior. At Turnabout we help adolescents deal with the pressures of life. We give the direction they need to channel those feeling of hurt and anger into something constructive. An adolescent in our treatment program will learn the necessary tools to deal appropriately with his or her feelings. Self harm can leave life lasting scars as a painful reminder of a troubled time. We teach adolescents the value of thinking through actions so that a negative decision made today won't result in a permanent scar for life. Adolescent self harm can also mean your child may be engaged in other activities to lessen the pains of life. Some of these could include drug and alcohol abuse or even suicide attempts. If you have an adolescent that is engaged in performing acts of self harm you may want to seek treatment for them.
